What else should you know about NYS Inspections?

Vehicles are required to be inspected prior to midnight on the last day of the month punched, of the indicated year, on the current inspection certificate. Upon the casual (non-dealer) sale or transfer of a motor vehicle, any certificate of inspection issued prior to the date of the sale or transfer will be deemed invalid. Every motor vehicle and trailer must be inspected upon change of registrant.

You can receive an inspection extension if you buy or get a vehicle from an out-of-state source. After you register the vehicle in NYS, you are allowed ten days to complete the vehicle inspection. Any inspection issued to the previous registrant is not valid after you register the vehicle.
